ELECTION INTEGRITY TEAM
Illinois Tea Party, Inc, is an association of groups united around the Tea Party Principles of limited constitutional government, personal freedom and free markets. Over 90 local groups are affiliated with Illinois Tea Party. Following the 2010 election, Illinois Tea Party (www.IllinoisTea.Org) identified core problems, on which they would focus their efforts in the months to follow. One of those areas was Election Integrity.
Tales of voter fraud in Chicago are the stuff of legend in Illinois. Still, most voters assume that when they cast a ballot, it will be counted. The history of recent elections nationwide prove that assumption to be false. Unless voters begin now, in 2011, to take stock of the integrity of their local election authority and commit to activities to review and clean voter rolls pre-election, the odds that Election 2012 will be stolen are great. Here are some of the problems we face in Illinois:
· Failure to require proper identification of eligible voters on election day
· Failure of safeguards for absentee voting
· Failure of local election authorities to remove from poll lists voters who move or die.
· Reported incidents of herding of residents of nursing homes and mentally disabled people to cast votes they are not freely consenting to cast. Unreported incidents must be widespread.
· Intimidation at the polling place
· “Hacking” of electronic election equipment, without any traceable trail, a possibility testified to by MIT engineers in an Ohio hearing
THE SOLUTION
The Election Integrity Team is seeking a few team members who will assist us in forming an Action Plan to be implemented by local volunteers over the course of the coming months. The problems with elections are so diverse, we need to prioritize where we will put our efforts to gain the greatest benefit.
